Ilam exports chiraito worth Rs 57.51 million

ILAM, JAN 23: The eastern district of Ilam exported medicinal herb chiraito worth Rs.57.51 million this year.

Within seven years since the Ilam farmers started cultivating chiraito commercially in the district, productions have seen a boost gradually.

According to the record of High Hill Herbs Organisation, a total of 71,894 kilogram of chiraito was produced in the current fiscal year 2012/13.

The current market price of the mountain herb in the district is at Rs 700 per kilogram.

Though the stems of chiraito are chiefly used for medicinal purpose, its seeds are also in high demand in the market……………..
